Around 40 km north of Panaji and 18 km north of Chapora.

Till recently Arambol was a favorite Goa beach for those maverick tourists for whom a Goa holiday meant non-confirming to any code-of-conduct, and who found even Anjuna too constraining. Paradoxically, but logically it slowly became popular, losing its isolation and attracting some development activities and the traffic of day-trippers.

Having said that, it's very much one of the most charming beaches of Goa and the development has only meant the installing of some basic contemporary comforts. The main beach, on a long stretch of curving sand, close to a seashore Goa village offers good swimming. On its immediate north there are several attractive and relatively quite bays, separated by rocky headlands. Here you can enjoy long walks with starfish near your footsteps.

Dolphin watching boat trips and paragliding are amongst the fun activities on this Goa beach. Boat trip to Anjuna beach are also available. 

A few shops sell clothes, junk jewelry and handicrafts from across Goa and India.

Some good cafes along the main beach and on the headland to the north serve up tasty dishes from the cuisine of Italy, Goa and India. 

The small Vetal (Betall) Temple in the tiny hamlet of Paliem, 5 km north of Arambol displays interesting paintings on the tree of life.

Typical beach Goa accommodation here often means seaside huts. A few basic guesthouses close to the beach and higher up on the rocky hills offer a cheap Goa holiday, both financially and figuratively. But a few better hotels should be up and running by fall, 2003. 

BEACHES NORTH OF ARAMBOL

* Keris Beach, just north of Arambol is one of the most desolate beaches of Goa; you might not even find it on a Goa map. Its unspoiled beauty is enhanced by the casuarina trees in the background. Avoid swimming near the mouth of the Tiracol estuary.

is the northernmost beach on any Goa map, just on the Maharashtra border, with a tiny picturesque fort which is now one of the best located coastal hotels of Goa and India, The Tiracol Fort Heritage.

The views from here are simply mind-blowing, to die for, looking over all the northern beaches of Goa, to Arambol and Chapora; right upto Fort Aguada on a clear day. The area surrounding it is also excellent for exploring on foot and bird watching.
